Kia Ora, Welcome to my archive. I’m Lucas van Schaardenburg; I work under the alias, Schaar Sartor, and this is my portfolio of designs & products!
I am a design strategist and interdisciplinary designer. I hold a BA in Fashion Design and an MA in Fashion Technology, and I have years of experience in the secondhand fashion retail industry. Currently, I work in a wide range of technical and analytical roles across fashion, graphics, and product design. My specialities include sustainable manufacturing, product customisation, and inclusive design research.
I describe myself as nerdy, witty, and caring. I take my work seriously, but I also enjoy cracking jokes and thrive when tackling unfamiliar challenges and disciplines. In my free time, you can usually find me in libraries, pubs, secondhand stores, music venues, MMA gyms, on beaches, or bouldering.
Now, back to business! If you’d like to see what I can do, keep scrolling or click below to explore my fashion pursuits.
During my BA, I realised the advantages of an interdisciplinary background and honed my toolkit as a 'jack-of-trades' to pursue a range of design opportunities. Previous interdisciplinary outcomes have included K-kapehu, my graduate project focused on creative entrepreneurship; Restbite, a design proposal submitted to the Auckland Council to address food insecurity in Tāmaki Makaurau by establishing student-operated community kitchens across Aotearoa's tertiary education campuses; and Rukus, an A5 square print exploring subcultures in Aotearoa.
My talent for research and witty interpretations has led me to publish in various print publications, including Debate and Ratworld. My focus is on research reports and investigative articles that explore complex topics from a design perspective, often infused with a humorous approach.
Schaar Sartor amplifies my voice as a creative. Here, I can display my craftsmanship to a larger audience that seeks to engage in products and life differently. I’m currently open to any professional offers and networking.
